Violence Against Indians in South Africa

abuses in South Africa.

An Indian origin doctor sent an email to DNA about how Indian community is being attacked and food sources, malls, wholesalers and communication towers are being targeted. The doctor working in Durban further added that a genocide has been planned in Durban, KwaZulu-Natal. Durban has a sizable population of Indian community. In another email to Swarajya, an Indian origin person told how black political parties are calling for genocide against Indians and shared the tweets of the political party Economic Freedom Fighters EEF, calling for attacks against Indians in the town of Phoenix. The person also shared another tweet where Indians asking for help from black police officers were not provided protection from the attackers. Phoenix is a town in South Africa where Indians and people of Indian origin are in majority. In Phoenix the riots turned into racial violence. An Indian origin resident said "Lots of Indians died in the line of fire protecting their homes and businesses.. Many Blacks were killed.. It is terrible for community relations." He told how rioting and looting happened in broad daylight and police acted as mere spectators and dozens lost their lives in street fights. Due to this, the Indian community is taking arms and organizing armed groups to defend their people and businesses. Meanwhile the Zulu king appealed to his nation to live in peace with the Indian community. India's Minister Of External Affairs S. Jaishankar raised the issue of the safety of Indian-origin people with the South African Minister of International Relations and Cooperation Naledi Pandor, who assured him that the South African government was trying its best to restore law and order.
